A Kite Battle Festival! How cool is that!? The Hamamatsu Kite Battle takes place in the spring at the Nakatajima Dunes, near Hamamatsu City, which overlooks the Enshunada Sea. The kites are big... real big, like 3.5x3.5 meters. Up, up... up they go trying to either cut their opponents string or knock the opponent out of the sky. The festival dates back to a celebration of the birth a baby boy to a Hamamatsu Lord. Some families around Hamamatsu still fly kites and or "Coi" flags on this day or on the day a baby boy is born. Not only is there a Kite Fight, at night the city hosts a parade of floats in the downtown. Floats, fluters, singers, dancers and just plain fun.
