Lantern Festival, in Japanese "OBon", is a solemn and happy festival in which Buddhists honor, welcome back and appease the souls of their ancestors. This "Festival" is truely an "all Japan" Festival which may be held at different times depending on the region but generally around the middle of Augest. Each city/town may have a festival in which locals gather and dance the O-Bon Odori and just celebrate life. Family members often visit the graves of their ancestors and offer gifts of food and spirit. Although it does bring back memories of past family members, it also brings joy as members gather, talk and enjoy their time together and remembering of their relatives. Also it's a couple nice days off work!
