Best Day Trips in Tokyo

Activity > Tokyo > Sightseeing > Tokyo Station

I know, I know... this could be a million different things but for me, this is my top 3. There is so much to do in Tokyo it is literally indescribable but after living here for three years I do like my 3 "top" things. I like to try new places too but if I'm really in need of a smile, I'll hit my favorite destinations. Each of the things in my list take more than a few hours to they basically are "all day" excursions but you could probably make a half day of them too. So, here are my best things to do in Tokyo:

Akihabara

Akihabara, the Electric town! I love going down to Akihabara on a Sunday. They close the main street and all the geeks and freaks get out. Not only can I shop for un-needed computer parts (yeah... I'm a bit of an idiot trying to get my PC to push a couple extra pixels so I can set my games at their highest settings), but I can grab some food and watch the freaks! Young girls singing with strange men around taking thousands of pictures... oh boy! There are tons of "ayashii" (... strange...) shops around and I love just wondering into them and seeing what's there, you can find anything your little fantasy desires. Akihabara detail page.

Tokyo Disney Sea

I've been to L.A. many times (have family that lives there) and thus have been to Disneyland many... many times starting when I was probably 3 years old. Sure, Disneyland it great but for me... Tokyo Disney Sea is awesome! I don't know if it's the "pirate" in me or what but the "theme" really gets to me and the rides are cool. I love taking dates here! No... not "first" dates (as you get really tired and you don't want to be around me when I'm tired) but "girlfriends" is good:) makes a nice fun day for both but... just a heads up here... you won't have much energy for extracurricular activity when you get home! A sushi shop at Tsukiji Market in Tokyo
A sushi shop at Tsukiji

Tsukiji

The 'ol fish market Tsukiji, I'll admit it... I eat too much sushi. The worlds oceans are depleting and... I just can't get enough of it!! HOWEVER... I have been recently studying up on this problem and have made "donations" and support for the worlds fish populations so feel pretty good about it now.

It's hard for me to go to bed early... I'm just not an early riser but if I plan on going to Tsukiji I'll have a beer, take a hot bath and try to pass out around 8:00 p.m. so I can get up at the crack of dawn (or before) and be down at Tsukiji when all the action is happening. I'll purposely NOT eat breakfast and by the time lunch rolls around I'm starving! When that first "toro" (fatty tuna) bit hits my palette... I'm in heaven! Tsukiji detail page. Note: As of October 6, 2018 the actual Fish Market has moved to Toyosu, See our Toyosu Fish Market page for details. However, the fish market and lots of suhi and other restaurants still remain at Tsukiji.
