Fuji-Q Highland is a "Thrill Seeker" Amusement Park and one of Japan's most popular parks. The park is located in the "Five Lake" region at the base of Mt. Fuji (on the Northern side). Fuji-Q Highland has some very scary haunted attractions and children's areas featuring "Thomas the Tank Engine", Gundam and Evangelion BUT, it is best known for its world record breaking roller coasters! Over the years Fuji-Q Highland has strived to be at the forefront of amusement park entertainment and is always adding and or upgrading its rides. It's roller coasters have set many new records since 1996.
The most famous roller coasters are Fujiyama (79 metres tall, 130 km/h, in 1996 the worlds tallest), Dodonpa (52 metres tall, 172 km/h, in 2001 was the world's fastest roller coaster), Eejanaika (76 metres tall, 126 km/h, seats rotate 360 degrees forward or backward) and Takabisha (in 2016 holds the world record for the steepest roller coaster containing a 121° free-fall). All of these roller coasters continue to "rank" among the best roller coasters in the world. These rides are incredibly exciting (and scary for some) so if you just want to watch your friends / family / girlfriend or boyfriend ride while you enjoy their expressions, you can always just buy an "Entrance Only" ticket.

Although the big roller coasters are the main attraction for thrill seekers, the park also has all the traditional smaller rides such as the tea cup, log flume, pirate ship, Ferris Wheel and a few others. After the roller coasters probably the 2nd most popular attractions are the haunted attractions (noted to be pretty scary!) and mazes. You will also find tons of restaurants (typical amusement park food), souvenir shops and carnival games along with a very popular ice skating rink which is open in the winter. As for the kids there is Thomas Land (a popular television series in England which features Thomas the Tank Engine which is also popular in Japan).

- The best way to get to Fuji-Q Highland is by Highway Bus. And, the best transportation method along with a ticket is the "Q Pack" (see website). With the "Q Pack" you get a round trip ticket from Shinjuku and the Unlimited Rides pass for Fuji-Q Highland. Adults - 7,800 yen, Students (12 to 18) - 7,400 yen, Kids (3 to 12) - 4,950 yen. The website is in English and you can order by phone or online. The ride takes about 100 min. (one-way).
- Another Highway Bus option (without the Fuji-Q Highland ticket) is the Highway Bus Fujigoko Line from Shinjuku Station for about 100 minutes for 1,750 yen one-way. Buses also depart from Hachioji (930 yen), Fuchu (1,400 yen), and Mitaka (1,500 yen). From Roppongi Hills, Tokyo Station, or Shin-kiba StationIt’s 1,700 yen one-way for about 150 minutes.
- The train is a final option but a bit of a pain, costs more and even takes longer (when you include transfers). From Shinjuku Station take a limited express from Shinjuku to Otsuki (base fare of 1,320 yen one-way PLUS seating fee of 930-1,650 yen depending on the season). Then you will have to transfer from Otsuki to Fujikyu Highland Station for 1,080 yen one-way.
