Sea Paradise Hakkeijima is an Aquarium and Amusement Park near Yokohama. It is located on a small island about 30 minutes by train from Yokohama Station. The aquarium is not huge but has a nice variety of sea creatures while the amusement park is also "mid-sized". The park opened in 1993 and is starting to show it's age a bit but still makes for a fun day out for the family or a date. Admission into the park is not charged but there are various ways to pay for things such as "Day Passes" (aquarium only, amusement park only, both, etc.) or pay as you go.

The two main sections of Sea Paradise Hakkeijima are "Aqua Resorts" the aquarium and "Pleasure Land" the amusement park (the name of the amusement park is a bit... eye brow lifting). Aqua Resorts has "Aqua Museum" where you can view walruses, dolphins, sea lions, seals, polar bears, whale sharks, giant turtles, sea otters and many other sea creatures. It also has the "Dolphin Fantasy" which is an arch-shaped pool surrounding a tunnel which visitors can walk through and see dolphins, stingrays and other fish swimming around them. The "Fureai Lagoon" is a place where you can touch some of the sea creatures. Pleasure Land is the amusement park part of the park with rides for kids and adults. It has the Blue Fall, the Surf Coaster, a Merry-go-round and a variety of other typical amusement park type rides.

From Yokohama:

• A.) Take the JR Negishi Line to Shin-Sugita (15 minutes, 220 yen, frequent trains) and then B.) take the Kanazawa Seaside Line from Shin-Sugita to Hakkeijima (18 minutes, 310 yen, frequent trains).
• A.) Take the Keikyu Main Line from Yokohama to Kanazawa-Hakkei (20 minutes, 280 yen, frequent limited express trains) and then B.) take the Kanazawa Seaside Line from Kanazawa-Hakkei to Hakkeijima (7 minutes, 260 yen, frequent trains).
