About

Chiba Shrine near Chiba, category - Shrines Temples

Chiba Shrine is a beautiful mid-sized shrine near Chiba Station. It's only a 10 to 15 min. walk from the station and offers a nice tranquil place to relax and experience the Japanese Shinto religion. The shrine is dedicated to the Shinto deity Myoken who offers protection from bad luck and bodily harm, a good deity to worship! The entire shrine is quite new as the original was destroyed in WW2 but very authentic and painted with bright orange paint which clashes beautifully with the abundance of greenery.

You won't find huge tour buses parked in front and on most days the shrine is very quiet with few visitors but locals will come to the shrine to pay their respects, please be courteous and give them their privacy. There is a small park in front of the shrine and a a very picturesque Japanese style garden within the shrine. Japanese style Orange bridges cross a carp filled stream which runs through the garden.

Although Chiba Shrine may not be a specific destination spot, you may want to consider taking a look if your in or around Chiba. If you visit Chiba castle, exiting the station at Chiba and walking over to the shrine is definitely worth it. Expect to spend about 30 min. at the shrine. On your way back to the station there was a great little Tako Yaki stand if your in need of a snack.
