Puku Puku Onsen (or "Spa" as they like to call it) is an interesting concept idea for a hot springs. This hot springs sits on top of a mountain surrounded by fruit fields (the "Yamanashi Fruit Park" sits below this onsen). The baths overlook the valley below and on a good clear day you may catch a glimpse of Mt. Fuji way off in the distance. The evening view is also quite "romantic" (although there is NO mixed bathing and you must enjoy the view with those of the same sex) as the valley fills with lights from the town below. On some nights when the moon is full the mountains on the other side of the valley can "glow" from the moonlight.

Puku Puku Onsen also offers services such as "Flower Spa" and "Fruit Spa" in the women's bath only. There is a relaxation room (have a glass of local wine), a restaurant and gift shop that offers various fruits and wines from the local area. Fruit Spa PukuPuku is a semi-popular day-trip stop for those living in Tokyo and can be reached by car or train + taxi (see below).

Notes:

This onsen is very close to the Hottarakashi Onsen
Although the price to enter this onsen is comparible to Hottarakashi Onsen, in general there are a lot less people here than at Hottarakashi Onsen. Even so, for a relaxing time it is best to visit on a normal weekday.
Male and Female baths are separate, this is NOT a mixed bathing facility.
Puku Puku Onsen has a dressing area, bathrooms and a restaurant you can eat at. Try some of the wine from one of the local wineries.

From Shinjuku you can ride the "normal" Chuo Line (express) which costs around 2,300 yen and takes about 2-2.5 hours or ride a Ltd. Express which costs around 4,500 yen and takes 1.5 hour to Yamanashishi Station. From Yamanashishi Station you will need to ride in a taxi for 10-15 min. (around 2,000 yen) to the onsen.
