About

The garden area inside the walls at Kishiwada Castle by 663highland (GNU Free)

Founded in 1597 (over the remains of previous fortifications), Kishiwada Castle (in Japanese; Kishiwada Jyou 岸和田城) was ordered built by Koide Hidemasa. In 1640 Okabe Bobukatsu took control of the castle and the Okabe family ruled until the Meiji Restoration.  The castle burned down in 1827 due to a lighting strike but was "semi-faithfully" rebuilt in 1954. Kishiwada Castle is only about 30-45 min. from Osaka.  Osaka castle is a great sight but at Kishiwada there are far less tourists. There is a museum inside the castle which has a good armor and sword collection. The maintainers also take care of a very nice garden in front of the main keep.
