About

Marunouchi area in Tokyo next to Tokyo Station by 663highland (CC BY 2.5)

The Marunouchi area in Tokyo is one of Japan's most prestigious business districts. Located between Tokyo Station and Imperial Palace it is right outside Tokyo Station wickets and easy to get to.  In the 2000's, the Marunouchi area received a "facelift" by the Mitsubishi Estate company. Many older office buildings were replaced by new skyscrapers. Offices on their upper floors and a variety of shops and restaurants on their lower floors. These newly opened shopping and dining complexes have revitalized the formerly unexciting business district and are drawing an increasing number of non business visitors in recent years. Some of the major buildings found here are: Marunouchi Building (Marubiru), Kitte, Marunouchi Oazo, Marunouchi Brick Square, Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum, Imperial Palace, Imperial East Gardens and many more.

You can easily stroll through the district from Tokyo Station on your way to the Imperial Palace. Streets are wide, sidewalks spotless. Be careful during lunch though as an army of businessment come flying out of all the buildings rushing to get their lunches.
